Searching and Selecting an Opportunity
In order to attach and utilize a S2S opportunity a user must navigate to the S2S Opportunity Search tab in the proposal and click the 'Find an opportunity' button. Please note, the S2S tab will only be active for proposals that have a Federal sponsor selected.
Once you click on the 'Find an opportunity' button you can search for available Grants.gov opportunities by either Opportunity ID and/or CFDA Number. The Domain will dictate whether the search will point to the Grants.gov servers. Grants.gov will search for most of the 26 federal agency postings. The Opportunity ID is the Funding Opportunity Number (FOA) designated by the sponsor for the posted Grants.gov opportunity and CFDA Number is the Catalog of Federal Domestic Assistance number that may be assigned to the FOA. If the FOA doesn't have an assigned CFDA you can leave this field blank upon search.
Once you click search you can review the listings in the search results window. The list table may include information in the following categories to help you identify your selection: CFDA # (if any), Opening Date, Closing Date, Competition ID, Opportunity ID, Opportunity Title, Schema URL, and Instruction Page.
If the result set is large, you may need to scroll down the window and use the page selector tool to see more of the result set. Or click Refine Search to return to revise your search criteria and perform another search. You can also simply exit the window via the 'close' button if you don't find what you're looking for.
But if you find the desired Opportunity you can click the ‘select’ button to return it to your proposal and the opportunity details will be saved to the proposal’s Opportunity Search screen.
Removing or Changing an Opportunity
Once the opportunity is returned the Opportunity panel will populate with the related information for that specific funding opportunity. The linked opportunity can also be removed or changed at any time while the proposal is still in progress. You can completely delete the opportunity via the 'Remove opportunity' button. The 'Change opportunity' will take you back to the Opportunity Search for you to find a different opportunity to replace.
Error Messages upon selecting an Opportunity
If you select an opportunity that contains forms not supported by Kuali you will receive an error message similar to the one pictured below stating which required form(s) are not available.
If an error alert is received similar to the one above in the Opportunity Search screen you cannot connect to this opportunity and use Kuali to submit the proposal until the mandatory form(s) noted in the list are added using the User Attached Forms tool. If the unstitched forms are not available, you will not be able to link the proposal to the opportunity and use Kuali to submit via S2S. More information using this functionality can be found in the S2S - User Attached Forms article.
To connect to this opportunity, you must do the following:
- Download the noted unstitched form version from the Grants.gov website. http://www.grants.gov/web/grants/forms.html
- Complete the form required fields.
- Upload the form(s) on the User Attached Forms tab.
- Search for the S2S Opportunity again. With the mandatory form requirement met, the system will link the opportunity to the proposal.
- If not in a Production environment the Opportunity lookup points to test servers for Grants.gov. Many test opportunities are available with 00.000 CFDA. NIH also has a number of test opportunities that are found on their testing information website: https://grants.nih.gov/grants/ElectronicReceipt/system_testing.htm
