Maintenance - NSF Science Code

Overview

The NSF Science Code table in the Maintenance tab is a list of science codes used to classify research in Proposal, Institutional Proposal, and Award documents that can be ultimately used for NSF’s annual Higher Education Research & Development Survey.  This table is where an institution can configure the options available to the user in the NSF Science Code dropdown field throughout Kuali Research module.  The year associated with the codes gives the flexibility for changes to the codes from NSF so they can be maintained for historical purposes on older records.  This table works in conjuction with the parameter NSF_CODE_YEAR which will drive which year codes will display to the end user as available options to select.

NSF Science Code

Within the NSF Science Code table you can edit, copy, delete, or create new NSF Science Code options if you have the appropriate system permissions.  Below is more information on the available fields in this maintenance document.

• NSF Science Code - The actual code value associated with the NSF Science Code.
• Year - The year associated with that code - only codes in the year entered in the NSF_CODE _YEAR parameter will display in the dropdown.  Older values can remain for historical purposes.
• Description - The long description of the NSF Science Code explaining the category of research.

Related Parameters

• NSF_CODE_YEAR - will control which year values display in the NSF Science Code dropdown throughout Kuali Research modules.
