Overview
Next week we'll be pushing out the below new roles for Protocol available in Kuali Groups:
- IRB SYSTEM CONFIGURER
- IACUC SYSTEM CONFIGURER
Currently there is only the IRB ADMIN and IACUC ADMIN roles which allowed a user full access to menu options in the protocol module; including configuration and template options. Since many IRB & IACUC admin users don't need (or shouldn't have) access to the configuration options we will be removing these permissions for these two roles and created system configuration specific roles to allow greater configurability for user provisioning.
The existing IRB ADMIN and IACUC ADMIN roles will have access to all the areas in protocols except the Configuration, Templates, and External Data ares. Now only the new system configurer roles will have access to those areas; the permissions for each are outlined below:
- Permissions for IRB SYSTEM CONFIGURER
- IRB Configuration
- IRB Templates
- External Data
- Permissions for IACUC SYSTEM CONFIGURER
- IACUC Configuration
- IACUC Templates
- External Data
Migration Process
To ensure that user access is not impacted by this change any users that are currently an IRB ADMIN or IACUC ADMIN will also be added to the new IRB SYSTEM CONFIGURER or IRB SYSTEM CONFIGURER roles. If an institution wants to remove a user from these roles they can do so by editing the members of each role in Kuali Groups.
We will be doing this change in two phases next week. The first phase will be adding the new IRB SYSTEM CONFIGURER and IACUC SYSTEM CONFIGURER roles with all the same people in the IRB/IACUC ADMIN roles; however the role will not have any permissions associated. The next phase we will be removing the configuration permissions from the ADMIN roles and adding them to the CONFIGURER roles. This entire process will be done by the end of next week.
More information on roles available for protocols and how to configure them can be found in the Managing Protocol Permissions article. Also, please note these new roles apply to Protocols application at the Highest group level.
