Overview
There are several reasons an institution may need to change the Lead Unit of an Award. Depending on the structure of an Award Hierarchy some nodes may list units responsible for specific accounts, and that may be different from the Lead Unit that copies from the parent Award, or an institution may restructure their organization chart requiring an update to the Lead Unit on an Award.
Changing the Lead Unit
In order to change the Lead Unit of an existing Award, create a new version of the Award by clicking on the edit button at the bottom of the Award tab. If you are modifying the Lead Unit listed on a child in version 1 of the award this step is not necessary.
Next, navigate to the Contacts tab and expand the Unit Details for the PI. This screen will display the home unit of the PI, the Lead Unit if different, and any additional Proposal Units that were manually entered previously. If the Lead Unit is listed click on the Lead Unit radio button next to the appropriate unit.
If the new Lead Unit is not listed, click on the magnifying glass icon in the Add line and search for the Unit you want to add as Lead Unit. Next, click the "return value" link next to the Unit you want to add. When the Award Contacts page loads again click on the Lead Unit checkbox and press the add button. This will add the new unit you've returned and set it as the lead unit.
Once you have completed the above steps, save the Award. Then make any other changes you need to make in this award version and finalize your award. The Lead Unit will also change accordingly on the Award tab.
