The full editing functionality in Kuali Research Protocols has been enabled in PRD environments (original announcement here). This new functionality allows a Researcher to openly edit any desired field within their protocol when that particular protocol is in an editable state (i.e. Return for Revision or Return to Researcher). In previous iterations of Kuali Protocols, users would be required to click an ‘edit’ button in order to edit a corresponding field’s data. In situations where an Admin had assigned an Action Item to a field during their review process and then taken an action that warranted sending a protocol back to the Researcher, the Researcher may have intermittently faced an issue where the editing restrictions on their protocol did not allow them to address Admin Action Items. In the case of Amendments, users were restricted to only editing fields that were initially edited in the creation of their protocol. The community at large felt that this resulted in slow, tedious protocol revisions and adjustments so we've made this update to hopefully improve the overall review process.
Please be aware that opening the protocol for full editing upon return will have some affect on ‘show latest changes’ functionality. Previously, you could click ‘show latest changes’ on any version status (including editable states) to see what changed. But after opening up editing for the full protocol the ‘show latest changes' functionality will only work on submitted versions to compare against the last. It will not work on editable states. As we continue to work on enhancements for 'Show Latest Changes' as a whole, we'll soon move away from displaying this option in editable states of a protocol, and only introducing visibility to compare submitted versions against one another.
