Java 11 is Coming!

As of September 2018, Oracle announced the end of Java 8 commercial support.

At the Kuali Technical User Group meeting of 10/16/18, we announced that Kuali plans to upgrade Open JDK for Java 11.  Again on 2/15/19, the group was asked to inform Kuali of any customer considerations or concerns. Kuali will insert a tag for java 8, but it is strongly encouraged that self-hosted customers also upgrade.

Kuali is planning to merge the upgrade by March 1, 2019.

The following was shared at the Technical User Group:

• Java upgrade coeus, kc-api, kc-s2sgen, schemaspy, kc-rice
• Essentially, all parts of Kuali Research will be moved to Java 11 avoiding the need to compile certain pieces with Java 8 and others with Java 11
• Will not be compatible with Java 8
• May require updates to Tomcat, Maven, and other developer or build tools
