Overview
The Kuali Protocols system leverages the Kuali Groups service for Unit Hierarchy and permission functions. For institutions using the Kuali Research Administration product it is possible to maintain your unit hierarchy in the Research Administration maintenance tables. When changes are made to your unit hierarchy you can push your units to Kuali Groups so they display properly in Protocols.
Pushing Units to Groups
First Navigate to System Admin Portal > System Admin
Click on the Push Units to the Core Groups Service link.
(Note: In order to complete this task the user must be in the Technical Administrator role and have the 'admin' role in Users)
The system will ask for confirmation that you want to push your units to the Groups Service. Press the Yes button.
Once you've confirmed that to want to complete the operation, the system will push all Units in your Research Administration module to the Groups service and display the following information about the actions taken:
- Number of Units pushed from the Unit table
- The number of Categories added to and updated in the Kuali Groups configuration
- Categories are levels in the Kuali Groups higherarchy
- The number of Groups added to and updated in the Kuali Groups configuration
- Each Unit becomes a group in the Kuali Groups system.
Note: Each Unit must have a unique name to be pushed to the Kuali Groups service.
Review Kuali Groups Push
Next navigate to http://{Your School's Kuali domain}/groups.
Example http://miskatonic.kuali.co/groups
Your groups will now display, and you can review them.
If you select any of the categories from the left sidebar then only units at that level of the Hierarchy will display.
If you click the Group or Category headers on the Group list then the groups will sort by your selected category.
If you are using the Groups to manage Protocol display and permissions it is not recommended that you build manual Categories or Groups. If you are using a groups instance to manage Protocols and another Kuali application work with the Customer Success Manager for your other product to configure your Groups service appriopriately.
for details on managing Protocol Permissions in the Groups service see the Protocols - Managing Protocol Permissions.
